Recharge.. Rejuvenate..

Going some place refreshing.. Hope I am not the squirmish type. Updating later ;)

~~UPDATED~~
Went to Kursani Men Spa yesterday. Opt for the 1 1/2 hour full body massage. This is the 2nd time for me. The 1st experience was at a well known establishment near Pudu. But at that time, I can sense that something else was going on around. Feel so 'takut' that it might get raided by the anti-vice authority.. LOL.

But Kursani is different. No hanky panky (or is it until you asked for it.. haha). The masseurs is really trained, he knows what he is doing.. coz he knew where my painful area was.. -the facial gestures I made might give it away-and work extra hard on that.

My body feels so light after the session. Sleep really tight last night amidst all the problems I am now facing plus the commotion made by my nephews who insisted I slept in the same room with them. Not bad for a really squirmish person. Will be going there again soon.

Moving Into New House

Can't wait to move in. There is some problem with the S&P agreement thus I have to wait for the developer to amend some of the clause til a mutual agreement is achieved, then I have to wait for letter of approval from BPP and after that, the renovation guys will move in and start hacking the walls. Only after that I can start calling this house a home. InsyaAllah all will be settle before June. Hmm.. I wonder how much should I spent for La cuisine...

Holiday-ing with My Mum

It has been a hectic schedule for me for the past few weeks. With the problem of my Myvi being held in Kuching wharf due to miscommunication with the freight company, my transfer letter being 'sesat' in the mailing process, the fact that my family house in Melaka that has been abandoned since 1999 needs some major renovation and refurbishment and last but not least.. my own house in Alor Gajah that needs some attention too. A lot of $$ involved.

My family house -abandoned since 1999

Syukur that I've made an early reservation (fully paid) for a retreat at Bella Vista Hotel, Langkawi. (with my dearest Emak of course). Or else, I don't think I have the energy, $$ or time to do that.

The view from Mt. MatCincang (Ok.. agreed.. more like 'posing maut' rather than the view)

Try as I may, I did not fully enjoyed the trip (keep thinking bout the status of my car, the house, date for 'lapor diri', the refurbishment process of my mom's house <-which no-one supervise-> etc etc). Trying to hide the worrisome face from emak, but I know mum always know best. But the trip was a memorable one for me and dearest Emak.

Oh ya, since this is still Friday's Kitchen, I think I still need to post food related 'picha'.

Hehehe... I read that chocolate can improve ones mood and the feeling of well being.. I'm now going to test the report... Do Not Disturb! Nyum-nyum ;)

Plan B...What Plan B?

I slept at 3 o'clock in the morning last night morning and woke up at 5.30am. Due to the lack of sleep, feeling dizzy and wobbly the whole day. I also found out that everybody SHOULD bring something to the Hari Raya Aidiladha gathering (some sort of potluck) tomorrow.

I wasn't aware of that so I made a quick decision to bring rendang ayam with nasi impit (sticking to the Hari Raya theme). Reaching home, I searched high and low for the recipe (I remembered writing them in an exercise book but I don't know which one). Still feeling wobbly from the lack of sleep, I decided to take a very short nap to recharge myself. Setting my mind for only half an hour nap time so that there would be enough time for me to search for the recipe later and plenty more to drive to CCK to get the chicken and other ingredients needed.

Woke up at 5 o'clock, the recipe wasn't in my 'slumberland' and the chicken was still in the CCK's freezer; behind closed door. LOL.

So I am now going for Plan B. The problem is I wasn't aware what Plan B was. Help!!

CheesecakeS

Notice the letter s? Yup.. I made two! :p

Living in Kapit, I've learnt to make a few amendments for the things that weren't available here and came out with my own versions.

Below is the Original recipe (Cherry cheesecake):

Ingredients

  • 250g plain biscuit (McVities are the best) - unavailable in Kapit
  • 125g butter (melted) - seasonal, sometimes they have sometimes they don't.
  • 3tsp gelatin - brought lotsa them from Peninsular as they don't have the ones with Halal label here.
  • 1/2 cup water - it is Kapit, not a desert LOL
  • 250g packet cream cheese (softened)
  • 3/4 caster sugar
  • 1tbs lemon juice - this time I bought them from a warung serving Ice Lemon Tea, dunno where she got 'em from.
  • 300ml carton whipped cream - got it from Cikgu Velu when she went to Kuching
  • 425g can pitted black cherries -unavailable.. period

Topping

  • 1tbs corn flour
  • 1tbs caster sugar

Method

  1. Combine crumb & butter in bowl, mix well and press over base of spring form tin.
  2. Sprinkle gelatin over water in cup, stand in small pan of simmering water, stir until dissolved; cool.
  3. Beat cream cheese , sugar & juice in small bowl with electric mixer until smooth & creamy; transfer to a large bowl.
  4. Whipped cream until soft peaks form, fold into cheese mixture; fold in gelatin mixture
  5. Drain cherries, reserve 3/4 cup syrup for topping.
  6. Spoon 1/3 of mixture into crumb crust, top with 1/2 cherries then continue layering. Refrigerate several hours or until firm.
  7. Spread topping over cheese cake, swirl gently over cheese mixture. Refrigerate until set.

Topping

Blend corn flour & sugar with reserved syrup in pan. Stir over heat until mixture boils and thickens. Cools 10 minutes before spreading.

Lazy Exciting Sunday

I've got the transfer result already (3 days before the result comes out officially, thanks to Adnan). Yesternight, I baked cheesecake. So today I am lazing around looking at the layout plan of my house. Planning (no more dreaming) for a renovation. Fortunately, I still remember the civil engineering jargon (hazely) or else the layout and numbers would make my head spin. (the cheesecake helps too). The feeling I am going through right now is 'berkecamuk' (mixed feeling). I am all excited to finally have a place to call my own, but at the same time, I have already become accustomed to life in Kapit. There are so many bitter-sweet memory here. The hatred feeling towards shops that closed early, no night life (I mean legal activity mind you), no bowling, no entertainment, no good watering hole have subside a long time ago. The feeling has change to being thankful of what Kapit has to offer, the waterfall (lotsa waterfalls), the wandering white storks (that looks amazing) and the awesome sunset.
Not forgetting all the awesome teachers and students whom I got the chance to work with (Cikgu Velu, Liza, Salmiah, Norseri, Hipnee, Hannan, Fila, Akashah, Saliza, Siti, Zamri, Rose..just to name a few). My The HANDBALL team (my blood and sweat since 2006) and The DRAMA & THEATRE team are two major groups that I am proud to be associated with here in Kapit.
The sad feeling hasn't sink-in yet due to the fact that I will be staying here til 20th Dec (as one of the SPM invigilator).

Lotsa things to do before that time arrives. Lotsa apologising to accept and return... Will there be free flow of tears? Only time will tell.

Kapit @ dusk (not edited ;p)

Reality Sets In LOL

Right now, I am counting days (5 days to be exact) for the transfer result to be made available. If everything goes according to plan, I am going to start my life anew in my brand new spanking home (insyaAllah). But until the day comes, what I can do is dream and sleep and hope the days will zoom by quickly and dream again. Actually it is not dreaming but more like planning (or is it versa?)

I've called a few developers and agents and making inquiries about houses available and the price they offer. Looking for a house that suits my tastebuds taste and negotiating with the agents are really difficult as I found out.

~at least 3 bedrooms (pantry/utility room excluded)
~at least 3 bathroom.
~a medium sized kitchen.
~a small strip of land at the back for my ego herbs planting.
.....and the rest of the must have rooms i.e. living, dining etc.

Right now I am not rushing to make any decision/booking as I think this is a very HUGE investment and needed careful and cautious planning. So in a meanwhile, I am planning the layouts and appliances in each room.... starting from...

La Cuisine (it s French for The Kitchen)

Browsing around, this layout really catch my attention. I love the modern style look with breakfast shelf.
Looks a lil bit like a bar counter and suitable for a kitchen without wall partition separating the dining as the breakfast shelf itself acts like a partition. Cool huh?

But the colour really.. Urgh!
Wonder how much I have to fork out to get this.. Hmmm

Hopefully my dream kitchen won't turn into this..

Faux Pas

Yesterday I made a faux pas.

Two actually.
Well it doesn't taste good like other things I've made and left a bad after taste in my mouth.
What is actually a faux pas you might asked?

Cambridge Advance Learner's Dictionary
Faux pas; words or behaviour that are a social mistake or not polite.

Right now I am trying my best to undo my blunder but at the same time I don't wanna make the situation become more awkward.

Hmmm...

I guess there won't be any dessert for me today.

Home Made Oreo Mint Ice Cream

I can't wait a minute longer to brag post these pictures in this blog. Took it out from the fridge, crossed fingers, scoop it out, crossed fingers, took a few pics, crossed fingers, open mouth and eat!! Yay!! The taste is incredibly 'cool' and yummy. Finally all my patience have paid off.

Can't share the recipe with you yet tho, because there are too many trials, re-do, re-blend, re-freeze etc until up to the point I don't even know what I had put to make them taste like this.

Ok I admit, I lied! I really don't wanna share you the recipe.. haha!

Ops! sorry.. I can't really control what my alter-ego is saying.

Will update this post as soon as I finish making the third batch later.

Life is short. Have the dessert first.

Chicken Porridge a la McDonald's

This is a recipe that I have tried three times and the result is marvelous. The cost of making this dish is just a fraction of what you might pay in the fast food restaurant.
Below is the recipe.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cup of rice
  • 1 litre of water
  • 1 inch ginger (crushed)
  • 1 cube chicken stock (crushed)
  • 300g chicken meat (0r 1/4 of chicken whole)
  • salt to taste
Garnish
  • spring onion
  • coriander leaves
  • fried shallots
  • black sesame oil
Method
  1. Put the chicken in a pot and add water until the chicken fully submerged. Add some salt and a pinch of crushed chicken stock. Bring the chicken to a simmer. Take out, deboned and shred (wait until it cools first.. haha). Keep the broth for later
  2. Wash and drain the rice, add the chicken broth. and cook in medium heat.
  3. Pour in 1 liter of water, stir occasionally.
  4. Bring them to a simmer, when the porridge is about ready put in the ginger and crushed chicken cube. Add in the shredded chicken (or you may add them later on top). Add salt to taste.
  5. Put it in a large bowl and garnish.
  6. Add sesame oil to individual bowl
  7. EAT!! LOL.
Wahlawei.. Very hard to translate the recipe in English... hahaha.. Next time it will be as it is lah. Cintailah Bahasa Kebangsaan Kita!!

P/S: Rice is naturally sweet, the salt is needed to 'drown' the sweetness a bit. The key to perfection is.. the taste buds on your tongue.. LOL

Life is short. Have the dessert first!

Trial & Error

A friend of mine once said that life is short, have the dessert first. I couldn't agree more. I have just finished making the second batch of home-made Oreo mint ice cream and couldn't wait for the outcome.

Second batch? Yup.. It is still in its trial and error process. The first batch suffered from too much mint flavouring that it became bitter. And it failed to hardened like what ice cream should be because I kept inspecting it every hour or so (hahaha).

Hopefully the second batch would turn out as wonderful as what ice cream should be and I can start writing down the recipe here.

Til then, I am keeping my finger crossed (and the refrigerator door tightly closed)..

Life is short, have the dessert first!

IntRoduction

This blog is a spin-off from my Facebook account. Since I am posting quite a lot of food pictures these days and been asked for the recipe a lot. I think it will be better to create a separate blog.

Besides, I like to brag about it

I am neither a chef nor an expert in cooking. Let just say the yet to be develop skill comes from 5 years of torturing my stomach eating expensive but bad tasting food sold here. I can't define where exactly "here" at the moment but I can paint a picture of how bad and expensive the food was.

Nasi Goreng Pattaya is a plain fried rice with a fried egg on top (yup... just sitting on top.. laughing at me.. the sucker) and Nasi Ayam Penyet is plain rice serve with plain fried chicken (marinate? what's that) and plain raw ulam raja.. The former is RM6.50 and the latter is RM7. Exorbitant? Right on.

Hence, I cook.. and loving it since ;)
